Everything Must Go Volume 6: Machine / 11-16-05 Raleigh, NC

This month's studio track, Machine, is one of the oldest songs currently in the band's regular rotation of songs. Written in 2001 by Tom Hamilton, the song helped forge a new direction for Brothers Past, particularly in terms of electronic improvisation. Machine was written to incorporate elements of drum and bass, which would soon become a staple of the band's live sound. While many songs have come and gone through the band's repertoire through the years, Machine has remained a constant platform for improv and become a fan favorite in the process. Drummer Rick Lowenberg once said, "If i had a choice between playing Machine every night for the rest of my life, or smothering my entire body in poutine, I'd choose the poutine. But it would be a tough choice." This release is a fresh take on an old classic. We hope you dig it as much as we do.

This month's live release is an '05 show from the Pour House in Raleigh, NC. The setlist is a mix of classic fare (Machine opener!) and songs played less frequently these days (Lines on Our Hands, Anvils.) There's even a Radiohead cover for people who like that sort of thing. Whether you're a jaded, old-school vet or a casual fan hearing the band for the first time, there's lots of great segments in this show. Enjoy!
