The song Can You Keep a Secret was written as the band was finishing up work on This Feeling's Called Goodbye. Written by guitarist Tom Hamilton, the song featured a stuttering rhythm and catchy synth melody that helped define the band's sound at the time. It quickly became a fan favorite after its debut at Peasant's in Greenville, NC in January 2005. Can You Keep a Secret was one of several songs written around this time that marked a stylistic shift for BROTHERS PAST. We were clearly influenced by the making of This Feeling's Called Goodbye and really focusing on writing songs that we could improvise with rather than jams we could turn into songs. To this day, that is still how we approach making music.

The live release dates all the may back to March 2003, when very few people outside of the Philadelphia area had any idea who BROTHERS PAST was. The band was touring parts of the Southeast and we played a tiny little club called Rubber Soul in Winston Salem, NC. Some of us were into it because of the Beatles reference. It was a small turnout that night, but one of the people in attendance was Rich Steele, who happens to do sound for the band these days. Rich made a multitrack recording of the show and that's what's being released. The show is notable for a couple of reasons, including the legendary "dub" Crutch, which Clay Parnell has referred to as the first time the band played something approaching authentic dub. Turn it up loud and enjoy.
